I was first introduced to the use of containers for large scale low-cost housing during a visit to Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Indeed, the University of Amsterdam has built a 500 room student accommodation block entirely from 20ft. sea containers.
We wanted to introduce this concept to our Mandurah unit development so we looked around for a suitable company that could convert recycled sea containers into comfortable home units. We wanted to keep the work in the Peel region but there was nobody doing anything even similar. Therefore, we started from scratch, with our own designs.
We approached the Mandurah based steel fabrication company In2steel and they agreed to work with us to design the modules and arrive at a selling price.
For the Mandurah development we have settled on three modules. These are as follows:
A 3 bedroom unit for families made up of a 40 ft. plus a 20ft. with an infill module to be fabricated by In2steel using their established home building technology.
All the internal linings and fixtures have been chosen to be durable but also economical to keep the cost down.
Container home units are available to the public in any configuration.
